Launching from Wareham
Launching from Wareham provides a beautiful sheltered paddle on the River Frome and out into the western end of Poole harbour. A stunning paddle in its own right, Wareham is also a good launching point if the weather is too windy to be out in the rest of the harbour or if the group has a number of young children.
The historic and picturesque town of Wareham, with its range of local places to eat, provides the perfect launch spot for the Big Canoes. The River Frome, which meanders from Wareham towards Poole Harbour, has tall reed beds on both banks. Never quite sure what you will come across around then next bend, this tour is sure to make you feel like intrepid explorers. A stunning and sheltered trip but with the possibility of venturing out into Poole Harbour should the group have the energy to do so.
Half day tour
Our 3 hour paddle can either be a stunning return trip from Wareham down the meandering River Frome, with its extensive reed beds, and out into the Wareham Channel or a one way trip from Wareham to the Arne Peninsular. To return to Wareham at the end of the paddle there is the option of organising either a car shuttle or we have mountain bikes available for hire for you to cycle the 6 km (3.5miles) back to Wareham.
Full day tour
Our full day paddle is a beautiful trip from Wareham down the River Frome to the Arne Peninsular. At Arne the group can explore the RSPB reserve before making the return trip to Wareham.
The meeting point for Wareham is on the quayside near the Old Granary Pub. Depending on how busy the quay is the Big Canoe maybe up- or downstream of the bridge and on either side of the river. Please come to where the canoe is moored.
